⚾The History of Eastlake Little League in Chula Vista, CA
If you live in Eastlake or anywhere in Chula Vista, you already know that Eastlake Little League is more than a youth sports program. It is a community tradition, a source of pride and a place where families form lasting connections. Since its founding, the league has shaped childhood memories, built friendships and strengthened the culture of Eastlake.
As a local Realtor, longtime Eastlake resident and former Eastlake Little League board member, I have seen firsthand how meaningful this organization is for our families. Here is the story of how Eastlake Little League grew into the beloved program it is today.
How It All Began
Eastlake Little League has been a valued part of the Chula Vista community since 1998, when the league was officially founded to serve the growing number of families moving into the master planned Eastlake community. The vision was clear. Create a youth baseball program where children could learn the game, develop character and build strong community ties.
One of the most significant moments in the league’s early history was the construction of its home fields. The land was generously donated by the Eastlake Development Company, and a dedicated group of parents stepped forward to help bring the project to life.
My husband and I were proud to be among those parents, serving on the board during the construction and development of the fields. It was a true community effort that reflected the spirit of Eastlake. Everyone worked together to create a safe, beautiful and well organized environment for our children to play and grow.
A Legacy of Excellence: Home of the 2013 US Little League Champions
Eastlake Little League earned national recognition in 2013, when the league’s All Star team became the United States Champions at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It was an unforgettable moment for Chula Vista and a proud highlight in the league’s history.
The achievement brought Eastlake into the national spotlight and inspired young players throughout the community. Many families still remember gathering to watch televised games and cheering as the team represented not only Eastlake but the spirit and determination of Chula Vista baseball.
A Program Built on Community and Volunteerism
From the beginning, Eastlake Little League has been powered by the families who call this area home. Parents volunteer as coaches, managers, umpires and board members. Local businesses sponsor teams and events. Neighbors fill the stands to support not only their own children but every player on the field.
This level of involvement has made Eastlake Little League one of the most respected programs in District 42 and throughout San Diego County. It reflects exactly what makes Eastlake such a special place to live.
The Fields That Bring Families Together
The Eastlake Little League complex, built on donated land and shaped by community dedication, remains one of the finest youth baseball facilities in the region. Families come together here for:
-
Opening Day ceremonies
-
Spring and Fall league games
-
All Star competitions
-
Team celebrations
-
Community events
The smell of fresh cut grass, the cheers from the stands and the energy of young athletes make these fields a place where memories are created. Many children begin in T ball, move through Majors and All Stars, and often return later as mentors, coaches or volunteers.
A Source of Pride for Eastlake and Beyond
The league’s success has helped shape the identity of Eastlake. Many former players continue their baseball careers at Eastlake High School, which has its own strong baseball tradition. Others go on to college programs. A few have even moved into professional baseball, carrying with them the discipline, sportsmanship and community values learned on these fields.
More than anything, Eastlake Little League is a testament to what a strong, connected community can create when families come together with a shared purpose.
